DRPP CATEGORY DESCRIPTIONS:

PORTRAIT / SOCIAL EVENTS

In this category, images can portray a subject or subjects from all walks of life and should reflect the personality of the subject(s). The Portrait category includes families, groups, couples and adults, relationships, models and fashion portraits, in addition to tastefully artistic figure studies.

Animals – this sub-category captures an animal(s) portrait using structured lighting in a studio or outdoor environment, where the animal is controlled by the owner or the photographer.

Social Events – Images created at or in connection to the event. Weddings, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, Communions, and Celebrations fall under this category.

ILLUSTRATIVE

Capturing the beauty of nature, wildlife, industry and architectural areas is considered illustrative. Illustrative covers Landscapes, Nature, and Commercial.

Landscape/Nature – The illustrative category shares joy and adventures while expressing a sense of place. Wild animals in an uncontrolled lighting environment, flowers, seascapes, cityscapes, urban landscapes, and sunsets with or without people can be placed here.

Commercial – this sub-category is used when images are created for a commercial client to advertise a product and promote a brand or company. This can be an interior or exterior of a structure or within an industrial environment. Illustrative can also be conceptual images that tell a story.

CREATIVE OPEN

Consists of images that have additional elements not created by the maker.

All elements not created by the maker must be shown in a guide image. All the other Photographic Open rules still apply, with the exception that you may now have additional elements in your image not created by the maker. These elements must be shown in a guide image. The purpose of this new category is to allow makers to enter some of their everyday images that may contain a digital background or other elements that were previously not allowed. You will still need to have all releases necessary. The jurors will be instructed to evaluate the entire image but the elements that were created by the maker must still be merit worthy as well as the overall image.
